Gateway – the series

My friend Michael Prieto with gambitONE studios just launched a new trailer for his series called GATEWAY. I have directed a few projects for gambitONE before and saw this trailer and loved it. We took a moment to talk to Michael about this new project. Gateway, is a series, created and directed by Michael Prieto.  The pilot is in production but they are  currently in talks with two (2) different networks  (we are definitely excited about that news!) The inspiration for Gateway came from past experiences and of wanting to tell a story about a broken person who risks everything to know their truth only to find a truth they didn't want to hear. The projected date is summer of 2019. So keep an eye out...and check out the trailer below: https://www.facebook.com/gatewayseries/videos/272778390...

Homophobia

June 11, 2018 - It is Pride month here in Los Angeles - as well as a few other cities across the US. Last weekend, as it was beautiful and warm here in Los Angeles, thousands of people came out to enjoy the sun, listen to music, and march down the main street of the city in celebration of diversity. In this recent political climate it seems many people feel empowered to not only express their fear of those that are different but lash out physically at them as well. It is very scary that there are those that can do harm to another human and feel no remorse. Or that they feel so privileged enough to attack violently. Growing up gay it was my fear that I would some day be assailed for being who I was. I did not expect to have that same fear in 2018. Neither did Jake Garcia, who was attacked l...

Interview 13 – Friday the 13th

For this Friday the 13th of 2018 I asked my writing partner Brantley J Brown to help me come up with some questions to ask the team of the largest horror franchise of all time: Friday the 13th. We came up with 5 questions. Why do you think the Friday the 13th franchise became so iconic. What does the character of Jason Voorhees symbolize for you? How would you compare the horror films of the day to those, say, from the 70s & 80s Speaking of Friday the 13th, are you superstitious? What scares you the most? Here are their answers: Victor Miller, writer, the original Friday the 13th Writing, direction, special effects and music——talk about synergy! Remove any one of them and you’re left with who knows… Jason was always a victim. He was a freak of nature, derided and lost. Ki...

Interview 12 – David Tetz

Art is a good way to work through pain. This week I talk to David Tetz about the struggles in his life and how is music helped him cope and survive the battle. BIO David T8tz is an indie DIY songwriter based out of Bakersfield CA. He is also known for his dodgeball and songwriting podcast on SoundCloud, The Book Of with David T8tz. He splits his time between singing, writing, parenting, and playing dodgeball. 1. Explain the inspiration for your album. Writing each song as they came up was more of a matter of survival than anything else. It was either get some of the poison out of you through your art or implode/explode spectacularly. I was a parent, and the only parent left now, so I didn’t really have the option of self-destructing (although as you can hear in the car crash on track 14,...

Interview 10 – Michael Coulombe

On Monday, March 19, 2018 my life changed. In reality though it really changed on January 11, two months prior when, on that beautifully warm day in Los Angeles, I passed out while driving on the 134 freeway. Thankfully I was stuck in traffic. If not, I could have crashed or hit another car. I was on the phone with my business partner Taylor J. Martin. I believe the incident happened shortly after that. But let me begin at the beginning. I worked out that morning - the morning of January 11, 2018. Finally decided that I wanted to do more cardio than I normally do. I usually focus more on weight lifting. For some reason, that morning, I didn't. I felt good, left the gym with a spring in my step. Came home, made a pot of coffee, had a light breakfast and went to my room to get some work don...

Interview 5 – MrMeathook

I got my love of horror from my cousin Daryl (YouTuber MrMeatHook.) Growing up he was obsessed with horror films, including the original Friday the 13th AND introduce me to the fan magazine Fangoria.  This eventually led me to become a horror writer and director - so this week I pay tribute to my cousin Daryl on Mimosas with Michael. ----------------------------------- 1. So what is the inspiration behind your YouTube channel? Why that particular format/medium? My inspiration is that I’ve always wanted to entertain, but I’m pretty reclusive and socially awkward. YouTube gives me the opportunity to express my creativity without having people stare at me while I’m doing it. It also allows me to edit out bits that are not funny or would be considered uncouth. 2. What is the reason behind the ...
