Interview 10 – Michael Coulombe

On Monday, March 19, 2018 my life changed. In reality though it really changed on January 11, two months prior when, on that beautifully warm day in Los Angeles, I passed out while driving on the 134 freeway. Thankfully I was stuck in traffic. If not, I could have crashed or hit another car. I was on the phone with my business partner Taylor J. Martin. I believe the incident happened shortly after that. But let me begin at the beginning. I worked out that morning - the morning of January 11, 2018. Finally decided that I wanted to do more cardio than I normally do. I usually focus more on weight lifting. For some reason, that morning, I didn't. I felt good, left the gym with a spring in my step. Came home, made a pot of coffee, had a light breakfast and went to my room to get some work don...

Interview 9 – Danny Martinez

I ran into Danny on Instagram a year back. I was impressed by his flair. We chatted and became online friends. I was fascinated with him being both gay AND a wrestler. I mean, that is something you never - if ever - hear about. So this week I would like to introduce you to Danny Martinez, also known as DJ Summers. 1. How do you feel about being known as a gay wrestler? I knew right off the bat I couldn't hide the fact that I'm flamboyant, so I decided to embrace it. at first I was afraid people wouldn't take me seriously because I am gay, but thankfully the locker room and fans embraced it. I've never been seen as a "side show" gimmick either, which I hope I never get booked as that. I always tell people yes, I may be gay but that doesn't determine how I am in the ring. I won't ever try to...

Interview 8 – Erick Ramos

I am inspired by Erick Ramos. He is smart, handsome, talented, and never wants to stop learning - plus he is a fan of my work, so that is a big plus as well! He found on social media and would hit me up about the process of filmmaking...and from there we became good friends. Now we talk ALL the time! 1. When did you find your passion for film-making? I began like so many, at a young age. I can recall writing action stories like those of the Mission Impossible and James Bond series. However, like many of us, I also grew out of it and settled in the normality of life. 2. How did you begin? It wasn't until my late twenties that I found that passion within to really create film. A lot of that I owe to my dear friend Michael who I occasionally would talk with at any given time about film and th...

Interview 7 – Taylor J. Martin

This week I present to you my dear friend and producing partner Taylor J. Martin! 1. Who is Taylor J. Martin the man? Well, I would say that I am a man who is consciously present. I love meeting new people, I love seeing new places, and I love the simple things in life. Half of me is warm, kind, care-free, understanding and forgiving, and the other half of me is focused, logistical, persistent and pursuant. Win me over with great food, great sunsets and great company. 2. Who is Taylor J. Martin the filmmaker? I love everything filmmaking. The challenges, struggles, and failures to the accomplishments, achievements and successes. I love bringing together a team in making a story come to life. I love seeing how a story can influence and effect an audience. I love the emotion that is evoked ...

Interview 6 – Granison Crawford

Wanted to introduce you this week to actor and comedian and a dear acquaintance of mine Granison Crawford. I had the opportunity to direct Granison in a very sweet and poignant short film I wrote called The Purpose of Apples. When he isn't acting he is doing stand up comedy - and he took a moment away from his routine to stop by and talk with us. 1. Tell me a little about Granison Crawford, the stand-up comedian? I was adopted, or as I like to call it, “chosen” at five years old, and raised with my sister by a single mom in Oakland California. Growing up I was into comic books, soccer, video games, and Dungeons & Dragons. In school I was always the class clown, so I spent most of my time in detention for making the teachers and my classmates laugh. As a comedian I like to break down my...

Interview 5 – MrMeathook

I got my love of horror from my cousin Daryl (YouTuber MrMeatHook.) Growing up he was obsessed with horror films, including the original Friday the 13th AND introduce me to the fan magazine Fangoria.  This eventually led me to become a horror writer and director - so this week I pay tribute to my cousin Daryl on Mimosas with Michael. ----------------------------------- 1. So what is the inspiration behind your YouTube channel? Why that particular format/medium? My inspiration is that I’ve always wanted to entertain, but I’m pretty reclusive and socially awkward. YouTube gives me the opportunity to express my creativity without having people stare at me while I’m doing it. It also allows me to edit out bits that are not funny or would be considered uncouth. 2. What is the reason behind the ...

Interview 4 – Bob Van Laerhoven

You know what goes good with a mimosas? A book! Check out our interview with renowned European author Bob Van Laerhoven and his new book 'Return to Hiroshima.' 1. What was the inspiration for your novel ‘Return to Hiroshima?’ So many years after WWII, our world-wide collective memory still recalls the horrible “Übermensch”- experiments the Nazis conducted in their concentration camps. When, some years ago, I read, by coincidence, “Unit 731 Testimony: Japan's Wartime Human Experimentation Program” by Hal Gold, it became clear to me that the Secret Service medical unit 731 of the Japanese Imperial Army went even further in their gruesome medical experiments, hidden in obscure parts of the continent, than the Germans. Obsessed as the Japanese society was with the “bushido-code,” the way of t...

Interview 3 – Stephen Kogon

Back in 2016 I worked on a film called Dance Baby Dance with Stephen Kogon, Beverley Mitchell (7th Heaven), Jim O'Heir (Parks and Recs) and Clare Grant (Robot Chicken, wife of Seth Green). I attended the red carpet premiere: Red Carpet Premiere and took a minute to follow up with Stephen on the process of creating his first feature film. 1. Briefly tell us what the journey with Dance Baby Dance was like. A: Briefly?! What are you trying to say -- I'm a windbag :) Fine, fine, here's briefly. It started with walks on the beach where I would listen to music to clear my head and get story ideas. At the time this story came about I was listening to a lot of old school soul (Stevie Wonder, Sam & Dave) and for some reason I just saw myself tap dancing to them (even though I'd never tap dance...

Interview 2 – Brantley J. Brown

For my second interview I wanted to introduce my good friend Brantley. I am always admired by anyone who drops everything to move across country to follow their dreams. I know it isn't easy - and I know that fear can be debilitating; often times keeping people from pursuing the one thing that makes them happy. So meet Brantley J. Brown: 1. So what made you pick up everything from Tennessee and move to Southern California? I think that a lot of people, at some point in their life, stop and have a moment of reflection. They evaluate everything they've done and accomplished. Some find they are right where they want to be, and some find that they still have so much left in this world to do. I definitely am one who found that I hadn't done nearly a fraction of things that I wanted to do in my l...
