Episode 26 – Thanksgiving 2018

It's already Thanksgiving. We just got out of Halloween - the weather is changing, we turned the clocks back, and I can finally wear sweaters again (for the most part.) I have been filming a lot and have not been the best at having time to schedule many podcasts guests....but that will change during the holidays. In the meantime, I thankful for so many people in my life. Without them - and you, my fans - I would not be where I am today...and for that I thank you. Here is to an amazing holiday for 2018 and wishing you all the best for 2019 https://open.spotify.com/episode/6DmxjXpaZTgvWRU2DyLYAA Mimosas with Michael on Spotify

Judge vs. Doctor

As I write this post it should be known that I am not the most political person. I do not usually write blog posts on political issues as I know there are others who are more informed than I am when it comes to the daily workings of our democracy; however the hearing yesterday between Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, to me, is not about politics; it is neither about Democrats vs Republics but really rather about what is right vs what is wrong. It seems that in this #MeToo era @ChuckGrassley will only be remembered his whole career by how poorly he handled the Kavanaugh/Ford case. #BelieveChristine #wrongsideofhistory — Mimosas with Michael (@MimosasMichael) September 26, 2018 So one thing I have learned about life is that perception is everything. The majority Republi...

Midsummer Scream 2018

This past weekend - July 28, 2018 - was my first time attending the Midsummer Scream Halloween Festival in Long Beach, CA. It's only in its third year and it's already very successful. I wanted to thank my friends Erika and Krysta for letting me hang with their group of friends...and also thank you to those who let interview them at the festival including Ryan Turek with Slashback Video and The Boo Crew Podcast! Until next year! https://youtu.be/bz0mssy6cZE Mimosas with Michael on YouTube

Interview 21 – Nick Zara

While I was traveling in London for my birthday, I went to a local pub there called The White Horse in Richmond, UK. They have an open mic there on Sundays that is usually well attended. I went there one evening with my friend to listen to some good music and enjoy my first Sunday roast.  The food was amazing AND the talent was extraordinary, especially this young man Nick. He is Italian, tall, very handsome, and best of all has an AMAZING voice - and he writes his own music! Because he is based in the UK it is hard to set up a podcast interview because of the time difference - although I would definitely love to have him on the show, so in the meantime, please take a moment to read his interview and listen to his music! Also! I hope to direct one of his music videos one day. *hint hint* 1...

Interview 19 – Holiday State

1) Tell us about how your band was formed? Well...we're brothers so we've always been playing music and singing and dancing around the house growing up. We've done some individual projects and been in other groups and bands together but it always involved other musicians as well. Those different projects ended just because a lot of the people we worked with weren't dedicated enough or didn't have the same goals in mind as we did. So in late 2014 we decided to start a group just the three of us and it's been good ever since. 2) How would you describe your music? Our music is a mixture of mostly country/pop. Very melodic, catchy hooks, meaningful lyrics, and 3 part harmonies. 3) What is the inspiration for your music? Life in general. Real stories. Good and bad situations, ups and downs rela...

Homophobia

June 11, 2018 - It is Pride month here in Los Angeles - as well as a few other cities across the US. Last weekend, as it was beautiful and warm here in Los Angeles, thousands of people came out to enjoy the sun, listen to music, and march down the main street of the city in celebration of diversity. In this recent political climate it seems many people feel empowered to not only express their fear of those that are different but lash out physically at them as well. It is very scary that there are those that can do harm to another human and feel no remorse. Or that they feel so privileged enough to attack violently. Growing up gay it was my fear that I would some day be assailed for being who I was. I did not expect to have that same fear in 2018. Neither did Jake Garcia, who was attacked l...

#RIP Jerry Maren

I had the great opportunity to see Jerry Maren years ago when he attended a screening of his film Dahmer vs Gacy that was screening at a horror festival I had helped launch. He was there with his wife Elizabeth (who sadly died not too long after) and a big plastic lollipop adorned with a colored bow. I found him charming and engaging - and growing up on The Wizard of Oz as all of us have, it was a true pleasure to meet him. He was a treasure no doubt and he will be missed. Thank you for the memories Jerry! I found this picture of the three of us that I have always cherished, as well as the video of the performance he did when he sang The Lollipop Guild to his wife! https://youtu.be/lmG61UqEHLI

Texas Frightmare Weekend

I had the chance to attend the Texas Frightmare Weekend this month in Dallas, Texas, May 3-7, 2018. It was my first time attending this particular convention. It is actually my first time attending any convention out of town - and for an entire weekend. I went with my cousin Daryl, horror YouTuber Mr. Meat Hook (past blog guest) because he wanted to meet his fellow horror YouTubers - and I really thought it would be fun to attend a new event.  So we bought our tickets...and we went! The event takes place at the Hyatt Regency literally attached to the DFW Airport in Dallas, Texas. So that made it easy, especially if you fly American. You just walk through the tunnel in the parking garage and VOILA you are there! And since we were staying at the same hotel as the convention that best thing...
