WhedonCon 2018
Convention, Science Fiction

WhedonCon 2018

I attended my first sci-fi convention this month: WhedonCon. A Whedonverse convention by fans, for fans, while raising money for charity. (The Lupus Foundation of America in memory of Ron Glass to the AL Wooten Jr. Heritage Center.) I have to say that I am not the biggest fan of sci-fi as I am for horror, but I did enjoy this convention. In it's third year it's still growing so it's not at the stage yet where it's so over  crowded that you can't talk to fellow convention goers or vendors or that the lines are so long when you wait for the panels. It is, however, nicely attended and I found that the fans of the convention were just as much fun to talk to as the celebrities! Held at the Warner Center Marriot in Woodland Hills, California it's a nice venue. Plenty of parking, which isn't over...

Episode 14 – Del Obispo Road

So at the end of last year I wrote a short film based on a story told to me by my friend and actress Rochelle Robinson. I thought it would make a great film and I sat down and wrote it one day while on set filming.  My good friend Edward Coupland wanted to help produce it. Then I wrote my screenplay Axe. Edward read it and loved the complexity of the character. From there he asked me if I would consider adapting the short film Del Obispo Road into a feature - so that he could act in a film that was complex and well written as well.  I asked my friend Brantley - who had just finished his film Chuckles to assist me. We are very proud of this project!   https://open.spotify.com/episode/34KQkRBVS7sMzY5kMwWVGK Mimosas with Michael on Spotify https://youtu.be/ffCg2k5b3I0 BIOS: ...

Interview 17 – Javier Puga

I have lost too many loved ones in my life to cancer. Cancer fucking sucks. Even when I go to the hospital to get my phlebotomies for my Hemochromatosis I sit among cancer patients - and I talk to them, listen to their stories.  They are all so brave. That is why I wanted to share the story of my long time friend and former roommate Javier Puga, a survivor of prostate cancer. BIO: I am the face of Prostate Cancer. My name is Javier Puga and I am a Realtor with Engel & Völkers in Beverly Hills. I represent Sellers and Buyers on LA’s Westside, West Hollywood and the Hollywood Hills. I wanted to use a difficult situation that I went through to help other men who might feel they are too young or too healthy to be stricken with Prostate Cancer. I am 39 years old and I work out regularly, I ...

Texas Frightmare Weekend

I had the chance to attend the Texas Frightmare Weekend this month in Dallas, Texas, May 3-7, 2018. It was my first time attending this particular convention. It is actually my first time attending any convention out of town - and for an entire weekend. I went with my cousin Daryl, horror YouTuber Mr. Meat Hook (past blog guest) because he wanted to meet his fellow horror YouTubers - and I really thought it would be fun to attend a new event.  So we bought our tickets...and we went! The event takes place at the Hyatt Regency literally attached to the DFW Airport in Dallas, Texas. So that made it easy, especially if you fly American. You just walk through the tunnel in the parking garage and VOILA you are there! And since we were staying at the same hotel as the convention that best thing...

Interview 16 – G. Larry Butler

When I was the featured poet at the Wayfarer's Chapel on Earth Day I was lucky enough to share the stage with this gentleman. He is a poet, an actor - even a thrill seeker. I enjoyed his work and we had a great conversation after as well. I thought he would be a great person to interview as he has done so many things! BIO: G. Larry Butler began his career as an actor in the feature film The Women's Club in 1985 in which he co-starred with Maud Adams, Michael Pare and Eddie Valez. Since then he has been involved in more then 150 projects in television, theater, radio and feature film. Although comedy is his specialty, he has dabbled in every genre. YouTube Channel

So one of my goals for 2018 is to grow the YouTube page for the podcast. I do upload each podcast to SoundCloud - and sub sequentially link it to the website so you can see all the links and pictures of each guest; however, I do also upload it to YouTube to help bring in a younger audience - with the hopes of creating a larger listenership. Plus YouTube is a different platform and I want the podcasts and videos to be available. Recently, with the podcast, I have been attending more conventions and screenings and premieres and have been putting together fun videos. (Okay, well I think they are fun anyways.)  Between our social media - Twitter and Instagram - and those that follow our posts might not be aware that there is more fun content on our YouTube page, so I wanted to direct you over...
